What-ever Happened to Ruth MacArthur is one of those games that comes along every once in a while. A project that’s brief, but put together with great care. An excellent, well-paced story, fantastic voice work and well-polished presentation make for a compelling experience that doesn’t often come along often, especially when talking about small projects. If I was told that the project was a much bigger undertaking than the game’s 20-30 minute length would suggest, I wouldn’t be surprised. A great deal of care was taken in every aspect of the game, bringing the world together in a way that is much more than the sum of its parts.
And the game’s story stayed with me after finishing. Individual pieces of the puzzle came together in my head long after my recording session. And yet, so many things are still a mystery.
For those interested in a spooky, slow-burning narrative, do yourself a favor and play this. You won’t regret it.
