mages will for sure feel unbalanced at first i had the same thing but keeping skills and using it on them and really focusing on zoning them out of blue makes them next to useless also dont forget you have items!
this game is tough i wont lie but really try to focus on using skills and dont be afraid to do so, as you gain back quite a bit of stamina each turn
