yeah, and if we knew that going in. It would have saved us, and probably a bunch of other people.
I do think the game should exist. It has every right to. (though perhaps not on itch, you can probably figure out why)
It just has a lot of problems with it's own setting that causes issues. I am the last person who should be saying you shouldn't break Twilight out of character but I kind of went in thinking this was a fully original piece of work with some parody, so I was expecting like "Blightly Barkle' not actually Twilight Sparkle.
Not to mention some misleading statements from the dev about avoiding such treatment.
It's still a demo though so perhaps it will have a 'no sex' route in the final game. if it does I might try playing it again but I will probably hold off for further reviews next time. (in truth I might still try it out and just make the mc a whorse so its 'safe' to read.)
The pov choice though is traumatizing. Seriously, most games that focus on rape-play content like that clair's quest gold, have the girl as a third person pov so you the player are not the one being assaulted, you are just a watcher enjoying from the sidelines.
I've had way too much time to think about this game. Still keep an eye on it, just man... its not something that should be without serious warning. This is one of the more violent things I've found on itch, and thats with games that have actual warnings for said content.
I think the next step for improving the overall vibe for more people to enjoy it is simple.
1: change the pov so its third person, not 2nd person. Almost no one wants to be the rape victim directly.
2: change twilight sparkle's name to anything else Dawn Shimmer, Twilight Shine, Dusk Dawnbreaker, or something. (this is entirely personal and biased on me)
3: add in a very clear warning in the start of the game that this is a rape fiction game, and what kind of rape fiction
4: add in a no-sex route so that more people can find a way to enjoy the world and story, yes they miss a lot of content, that's okay. it will help with visibility.
none of these need to happen, and I'm just one eldritch abomination who's overly opinionated on ponies. So take this with a grain of salt, or with an entire can of salt. It's just what came to mind to help make it easier for people to get into it.
It would be amazing to see this take off, otherwise people are going to have to wait 10+ years for our art to catch up to this level and then I still don't get something to enjoy personally XP
