So, since you didnā€™t get a proper judge feedback, Iā€™m gonna try and correct that.

In the heart of the game there are 2 interesting ideas that kinda conflict with each other. On the one hand, a really fun potion brewing with quite complex systems. On the other hand, a game about achromatopsia. The game would be more fun (imho) if you ran with just one of those ideas. Potion making process is really engaging, but the black-n-white filter makes it needlessly frustrating. And simulating visual impairment is an interesting idea, but it doesnā€™t really contribute to the gameplay beyond making some text descriptions useless. Also it should be explained better, right now it feels like a weird style or bug unless you know what the word means.

If you still want to keep both of the ideas, I would suggest splitting gameplay into 2 parts: one where you need to identify and label ingredients, and another where you mix them following the recipe.

Some things that add to frustration:

  • The font is really bad! For the walls of text please always use simpler and more readable fonts.
  • Thereā€™s no need to have both the timer and the limited number of tries. And it would probably be more fun to not have any limits at all and just experiment.
  • There are some bug with UI, where you can open multiple menus on top of each other.

Disregarding the font, I quite like the gameā€™s presentation, especially the animations on different instruments. Sound design is also very enjoyable and really makes you feel like you are doing the potion crafting!

Overall, great job, and sorry that judges disqualified you.
