As I have said before don't judge a book by its cover, Neither of the things that you have guessed are correct for this update. you make decisions as both MMC and FMC and Ethan got a whole new revamp in this update I don't think anyone would describe him as a loser.
Overall everyone has a different taste but judging a game without playing it or by just playing the first update and not the rest of the story and building a false mindset about the whole story is a stupid thing to do but that's just my opinion
