How were the jam writers compensated for their published entries? I’m thinking of running something similar and wanted an insight into the process.

Initially there was not a plan to compensate (when the Jam started) because the combined book was a free download on itch.io. Then as it picked up steam, we started charging for the original itch copy to itchfund a remastered version (paying artists and such) - contributors were notified and the plan still was not to compensate and as soon as we raised funds to pay the artists, it would be free again. However, folks really started liking it and we decided to kickstart this big remaster... we reached out to everyone and offered $50 (initially)  OR a contributor copy of the book OR both. Most opted for the book but a few wanted to be paid. We haven't paid out yet but the plan is to get folk paid and their books once production is paid for. i think being upfront with your plan is the best bet. For us, the plan was never to pay as it was billed as a community project - however as it scaled we felt it was right and proper to pay folks for their amazing work!

Nice one. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
