For some reason every time I head to the living room in the manor it sends me back to the old house and then kicks me from the game

Its a bug with the empty living room. There is a way around it however its difficult and requires precise timing to do. Essentially, you can access tbe living room so long as someone is in it without being kicked. On both here ad the discord a user named MakaelK has done a guide on how to pass the major living room events.
