you're right that she can't accept reality - and talking animals(and a tree) are her "protection" from it. Only if you ignore them, you can see the truth. All her family was killed and she succumbed to "fugue state" - forgot everything, found a house with nice people who took her in(it's the house we see at the start of the game). House she goes to everyday is her own. Btw the tree she burns is actually an old homeless man - she noticed him talking to himself in his sleep about how hard his life is... So she decided to "help" him...😧
the fate of that family Karen now lives with depends on wether she accepts reality or not - if no, then something bad will happen with them too.
I hope you wil play other games of the series, and i'm already working on the final part!😋
