for some reason I cannot pick up the turnips even tho I can interacted with the box, and I did use E and the hand button on screen. I'm as close as I can be to them as well, is there some trick to it xD

Try to position yourself in front of the turnip! The player currently works with targetting the tile in the front but not on top of it :p
