If you do it in front of them, they care, but if you wait until Duskfall is actually STILL IN the nursery with kits, then they won't care lol

Actually if you go with Duskfall to the beach before you go Dustfeather will ask you if it's just a friendly walk. Then the game gives you the choice of leaving him. If you say no you will stay with him and then become mates with Duskfall with no problems. Also this only works if your mates with Dustfeather.
