The game does hog memory, I'm not sure how to fix it as it barely runs on my laptop. But it will cause freezes, open your task manager when you launch and you'll likely see it spike then crash also launch with console and see if it gives an error code to report,
to find the console right click on on the game in itch app and click on open folder in explore then launch with Strive for Power2 - console
Strive4Power is pretty good at responding expecially when given useful information
