Some people install it from 3rd party sources because they don't know any better, some do it for the reasons you mentioned. However, 3rd party sources often provide outdated (often pirated "BETA") versions that possibly have game-breaking bugs (which are already fixed in the latest official build).
Modified versions go way beyond outdated in that they indeed modify the game directly, and can cause issues that have absolutely nothing to do with us, the official developers. It's not possible to provide support for modified builds.
All we can do is tell people to make use of the official download locations to make sure they have the latest build. From there they can seek more support on our Discord in the #help-and-bug-report chat if they still require help.

I don't feel right saying that I play the game from another source, but in my case I don't know English, and I love the game, that's why I have the game translated into Spanish. And if the game has some errors, but my desire to play this beautiful game, I took the option to play it translated into Spanish, I wholeheartedly hope that at some point they translate this game :(
