Hi! Sorry for not noticeing this sooner. I did some reading about opening unsigned apps, and here are the suggestions I could find.
Go to system settings, then privacy and security. There should be the blocked application at the bottom, and a button that says "Open anyway". The prompt for the application will appear, and all you have to do is click open. After that, the app will not be blocked again.
If you are opening an unsigned application for the first time, control plus click or control plus enter can allow you to open the app and not block it in the future.
That is all. I hope that these suggestions can help you run the game. Let me know if there are any more problems. Thank you! :)
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I still cannot run the game. The blocked app does not appear at the bottom when I open system settings, privacy and security, even though I have my setting set to "allow apps from anywhere". I am running Mac OS Sequoia 15.3. I honestly do not know what the solution is here.
Oh, this is strange. The game should run there. Maybe, it got deleted by the system? If not, then I don't know.
I have someone test the game, and it was running fine. I think their mac version is also sequoia, and they used the steps I have given to open it.
In the past, they mentioned a command that they used. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the entire command, but it begins with xattr. It has something to do with modifying the application's permission? I am not sure though.
In case it did not work, I found another command. This is a little more powerful than the other, and maybe, you have tried this one already. But if not, here it is.
sudo spctl --master-disable
That will disable gatekeeper, and make the anywhere option available in the privacy and security settings for installing apps. Once you are done, you can input the same command, replacing the last part with enable. Be careful with that one, because any applications can be installed after you turn it on!
Those are the only solutions I can find. You can try experimenting with other nvgt games to see if they will run on your computer. If you know some friends that might be able to help you, try reaching out to them. Thank you, and I hope that you will be able to play the game soon!
Thank you for your reply. I have already tried all of your suggestions, but unfortunately they did not work. I have all of Mason Armstrong's Mac games on here and they work just fine. I used the xattr command in terminal to activate these. I copied the game to my applications folder before attempting the commands you gave on this page. Was this the incorrect thing to do? Unfortunately, I don't know of any other mac gamers who have downloaded this game. I am determined to get the game working.
Hi again! I don't think that copying the game to your applications folder should cause a problem, because it sounds like a good thing to do. And I am glad that you are determined to make the game run. Determination is a good thing to have! I will try to ask around about other ways of running an application on mac. In the meantime, if you have access to windows, linux or android, you can run the game on those platforms as well. Right now, those are the only ways I can think of for you to experience the game. I do not have much knowledge on the mac operating system, do to not having access to it. Even so, I will try to figure out why this problem is happening. That is all, thanks!
No worries at all. I have explained my problem in the general game discussion room of www.audiogames.net, in the hopes that a Mac user over there has gotten the game to work, and to explain to me, step by step, on how they achieved this. I haven't looked at responses for a couple of days as the website has been down, but will go look shortly.
