This is my preferred way of packaging, I do this for everything that I release. But if a lot of people request this I will consider changing my packaging method.
It is ok as you feel is better. Extract to named folder is also an option with 7z, winrar etc. I just need to be careful (though I just extract to a folder and again winrar it for now).
I use Winrar too, but I always use the Wizard button to extract the folder to desktop. This will also create a root folder from the archive’s filename.
