Have you played LSD Dream Emulator? The aesthetic of this generally strikes a similar tone – it’s a very minimalist, atmospheric game. The tall street lights and flat, open area are a nice juxtaposition and make for an eerie visual effect – as does the mysterious hulking figure who chases you when seen. I wonder what you could do with that mechanic! There’s plenty of games where sight and stealth in horror work well together, like SCP: Containment Breach. I found the baby’s cry when triggering the endgame effect sort of snapped me out of the moment a little, because babies aren’t exactly as scary as surrealistic nightmares, but it did add to the very strange tenor of the experience!
