I think that definition of “incremental” was an accident, in that people thought “increment” referred to number-go-up gameplay, but that’s actually clicker genre like cookie clicker. Incremental gameplay actually mean unfolding games, or games that reveal more gameplay mechanics as you go on. It got confusing because a lot of the good ones are both, like A Dark Room which is an unfolding game, but not like AdVenture Capitalist, which is just a clicker. So in my mind incremental means probably a clicker, and maybe an unfolding game, depending on who’s saying it and what they think it means. (And a game that has number-go-up gameplay but *not* clickers elements *or* unfolding elements is actually just a classic management sim, which I believe *all* the aforementioned games actually tend to fall into!)
