I dont see why this is an issue? I've considered doing this too. setting a 500$ award doesn't seem like a big deal to me, but it would be for others. Even' more so if you want to grow an audience for some reason or another, or grow your own game jam in the future.

Competition rules: We will randomly select 1-3 winners from the participants. We will also give cash or material rewards to other participants. This is our first time organizing a Jam competition, hope you enjoy and have fun. Looking forward to something exciting to come out.
