One of the biggest things I notice people tend to ignore, but is just as important as the things you've listed, is to have a nice itch.io page.

I've played a lot of games with great potentials, yet many of the creators choose to put minimal effort into polishing their itch.io page, thus receiving no recognition.

Spend some time decorating your game page, post some nice screenshots, and write up some intriguing text telling users what your game is about.

Other things would include advertising your game on your social media. But so far, itch.io itself seems to be doing most of the work for me.
