I've decided to try using a standard format for all my feedback this time around. Please excuse me if I come across as overly curt or miss something important about your game. I'm writing these all quite hastily as there are a lot of games in the jam this year!
What I liked
The art and music is simple, but far more retro than bad, and quite well done.
It's quite a well polished entry with only minor bugs as far as I can tell, and has a menu, instructions, etc.
What I didn't like
I kinda wish it had some story to explain who I am playing and what I'm doing, but it's not necessary.
It's a super-hard platformer which is a genre I'm not all that into to begin with. I didn't find it fun to play but I hesitate to condemn it as an unfun game in general because of this.
You're sent back to the beginning of the level every time you die, and given how often that happens it's a real chore.
Did I think it was so bad it was good?
No. It's a relatively good, if incredibly hard, game with minor tweaks.
As far as I can tell (but see below under "Other remarks"), the "joke" or "quirk" is that this is your other game, vicious, with the difficulty tweaked. I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to decide whether that was a lousy joke or an anti-joke before deciding that it doesn't matter. Either way, the punchline falls flat. I think it might have worked if it was a game that was better known or even one that I'd played beforehand, but coming in out of the blue I just don't have the context necessary for it to be funny.
My thoughts on the modifier implementation
Impossibly difficult? I'm not sure this is an intentional implementation as no note was made of it.
Other remarks
I still wasn't able to get past the second level. I've seen hints that maybe there's a surprise at the end but I don't think I'm ever going to get there.
Verdict
Not a bad game, but not so bad it's good. And I'm terrible at platformers.
If you have any questions, comments, queries or concerns, please reply and I'll do my best to get back to you.
