Thanks for the tip! I'll try it out with less trees. They deal very little damage though so you don't really have to destroy them. If you use the machine gun to shoot around you will destroy them without actually aiming for it. Destroying police cars gives you health so you should focus on doing that. But I guess that it is a bit frustrating with that large amount of trees.
