Cool prototype! Hex spheres are hard... I tried to do it for my game and couldn't wrap my head around generating one.
Thanks! I just used a model split into faces. This polyhedron is called a truncated icosahedron (it's a soccer ball) and you can find a model here.
Oh nice idea, I didn't even consider splitting the faces!
