Don't compete just for the prize or to be the number one! I know you hear this all the time, but it's especially good for game jams. There's hardly any advantage to "winning" the jam and the probability of winning is really low. Just focus on making a nice game to learn, get feedback and end the jam with something you're proud to show others!
