This was meant to be a small time waster game, they never expected it to blow up like this. Read their latest itch.io post, they say that they will be reworking some of the core code, and part of that will probably be encryption.

Thank you for your reply. I know this, but still - If you release a game to play on public servers, then an encryption is a must-have nowadays, independent of the size of the project. It's not hard to build in standard encryption modules. Most development environments offer this feature. I hope, they can make it safer and make the game hacker-free. This should be the highest priority on their ToDo list. I like to play it very much with friends, but in public matches with randoms there are too many hackers who just troll and destroy the fun for everyone.
