Bcs they worked REALLY hard to make this game. Making a game isn't easy. I should know

You have to pay because of many reasons

1) The creator deserves to profit off of their hard work to create a game for others to enjoy

2) By paying you get all outfit and hat choices without payment 

3)The game cant really sustain itself if it is entirely free

this is among other reasons

Because of how there are no advertisements, it can't be free. Among us on mobile is able to be free because of how they can use ads, but Unity doesn't support ads on computers, so it can't be done. Therefore, they made it so you need to pay money, because they lost out on you giving them money with ads.
