game jams are a good chance to learn new tools. I love text-based games, not so many people create these types of games. I have a few technical suggestions

*First time I opened the game, I got stuck at instructions screen, I guess there is no back button or I couldn't find it

*Background image pattern lowers the readability of the text

*Although I really like the font, you can try a little more readable font

*Type writer effect on center-aligned text with many lines is seemed a little dizzying for me

Finn--thanks for the comments! I'm currently working on fixing lots of the bugs and little kinks of the skeleton of the game for an update soon, so I appreciate any suggestions.

I think the instructions return link is at the bottom of the passage, but maybe I could make that more prominent.

I think you're right about the text--overall I struggled with finding one that felt fitting for me. I think when you hit the middle sequence it becomes a lot more readable (diff font) but I think overall you're right that it could use an overhaul. Now that there's no time pressure I'll probably give this a lot more thought.

I debated about the type-writer effect too. One of the reasons I chose it is because I'm experimenting with this open-ended stream-of-consciousness type narrative, and I thought it might overwhelming/tiresome if it was all just pasted at once. I'll have to try and think--maybe I can slow it down? Or perhaps with some font changes it will look better?

Anyway thank you so much for taking the time to check it out! The game is only like 40% done (though there is a win state), to be honest I can't wait to properly expand it. I hope to hear what you have to say when it's at that stage too!

Cheers,

A

Edit: I think I realised the issue. The scrollbar function was disabled...I thought I enabled that! Ugh. That means it hasn't even probably been playable until now. Oh well, you live and learn!
