I love the duck pet. And it seems everybody notice it :D it's really cool.
Colors are very intense and contrast is heavy, maybe a softer pallete should help.
I think you should add some frame to the message system to help notice the words better.
I think this prototype has all the features you need to make a interesting game and i hope you use those mechanics!
