I was suggested your game from an other reviewer, because we basically had the same idea!
Obviously, I really liked your game! At first it seemed too hard but I kept trying and I almost beat it.
Here's some feedback:
- I liked a lot the visuals and the sounds
- I liked the attack patterns of the enemies
- hitboxes could be a little more forgiving
- starting is the hardest part since all enemies are alive and your spawn right in the center. Once you clear a couple of enemies and move to a better spot, it gets easier. So maybe I would fix this difficulty curve that has a big spike right at the beginning
Some of the critics I received may also apply to your game so I will leave them here:
- some users didn't like the fact that once you die you have to restart from the begging
- the game would benefit from iFrames after getting hit, to give the player the possibility to escape dangerous situations with only one damage
- this types of games greatly benefits from game juice (screen shake, particles..)
- Hard games should have difficulty options/mode to be more appealing in game jams
It's always nice to find a different implementation of the same idea! In the end, I think your game fits the theme more than mine ahaha
