An interesting game, definitely the first music oriented game in the jam I've played and definitely the first to include a real high score system which I was not expecting but definitely pulled me in for more than I meant to play.  The concept is also simple but clever and interesting with what seems to be a lot of endless survival.  Though it does feel slightly punishing to make it a 1 life only game, that does also fit a bit I guess.  Some finer points tho:

  • There were definitely a lot of times early on when I would end up underneath the platforms and be stuck for a few seconds which was almost always the death of me considering how difficult it was to get out from under them.  I definitely would have preferred maybe just making that not possible to make it easier or something.  It did get easier with time somewhat though, even if the lower platforms still posed a problem.
  • I was not expecting a full on highscore system which was a pleasant surprise and definitely cool when my friend decided to try and beat my score and I went and tripled there's.  All the high score fun.
  • The shields added a nice extra element, especially when they were the same color as the actual block, it definitely tricked me a couple times where I would break the shield and then start moving to another color before I realized that the color was the same.  Or I'd end up moving to it to deal with other blocks that had the same shield.
  • It was a little unclear when the blocks had gone "off screen" cause there were a number of times I could've sworn I died, but they ended up getting destroyed just early enough that I lived to continue raising my score, so maybe adding some clearer feedback or a clearer outline could help?
  • Also it was interesting risk vs reward scenario with hitting the wrong block, because it seemed as though you could get more points by doing that, but you also risked being unable to stop all the blocks and losing all the points you gained.  It lead to some nice trade offs for sure.
