Well, your interpretation is partly correct... but the element you're probably missing out (to put all the pieces together) is the overall setting, which is hinted in many places, from the comments on the radio in the child's room, to the observations on the dark window behind the red coated lamp.
To make it short: there's more sci-fi involved than what it seems. ๐
The richly detailed philosophical and symbolic elements pave the way to a full plot understanding.
But that's a meta game made of researches and speculation. It's up to your pleasure of discovery. Much like sleepthrough was.
By the way, the stereo amplifier on the final screen can be turned on (it'll play two previously unreleased tracks of mine -not gaming related-), and the SABARAT laptop's screen will lead you to a (slightly revised) playable version of that game (that's a "game-in-a-game" bonus easter egg).
