At this point in the game you should be producing a few of each type, and have them ready to hand over once you know the item. Premade weapons is where it's at.
I personally find this more than a bit annoying, as I like the game for it's more relaxing tone and making stuff is part of that. Would love for an option to turn off time limit decreases.
