this made me think of the game karuta/the anime chihayafuru about it. it's a game where you have to memorise 100 ancient poems to play and it engenders a lot of really interesting discussion about art and culture.
ooh yeah I watched a couple of episodes of that. Could definitely be listed alongside Ping Pong on here
