I have to applaud you for attempting a rhythm game in GameMaker, first of all. I've used GameMaker for a while and I don't think it offers the best audio functions, and unless you use delta time functions I think getting the timing right can be a real struggle. It's a genre I've always wanted to try but have never been sure whether to pick up another engine for it.
This game took me a few attempts without scoring before I finally figured out what was going on. I think you need a few more indicators to show when the player is getting stuff right or on the right track, otherwise getting the "failed!" sound effect over and over just gets a little confusing. I'm not sure how large your timing windows were, sometimes increasing them can help, but I think I just needed a better visual indicator of how far off the beat I was.
That said, when I finally started hitting targets and getting points, I thought the custom animations were rather neat. The art as a whole has a nice colour palette and style. Despite the shortcomings with sound and some gameplay I thought the innovation and interpretation of the film scenes were done really well, nice job :)
