My idea was a bit lame. But there's a SNES controller at the end of the level. The idea derived from this phrase from Lord of the Rings.
All that is gold does not glitter,
...
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
Each level you will resurrect a SNES controller.
