An interesting idea, which I think could be taken further with a bit of polish. Having the pieces move instantly without an animation made it difficult to see how things were moving and what moves the AI was taking. I think if I was playing with someone that would be improved. The pieces getting stuck when their linked piece is taken, and rejoining up, adds a very clever strategic layer, and I'm very impressed you got any AI working at all, even if it isn't perfect.
