It’s one of the things one needs to get used to when publishing work on an international level.

When sharing your creations with friends and family, they know your experience/budget, and it makes it easier to support you. The moment a project is available online for all “strangers” to try, they don’t really know your situation, and compare your work with popular projects, so it’s easy to be judged negatively.

I think it’s one of the reasons indie sites like Itch.io are quite popular. It’s easy to set expectations of indie/unusual games with small budget and tiny teams of a few people.

My only advice would be, aim for every new project you make to be at least somewhat better than your previous project. Take it one step at a time, and you’ll be on the path of making better quality games.
