"Because you consistently treat him like a friend. Sure you say you hate him, and yeah you might have fought him a lot in high school. But in between, in those moments when you were calm, you could carry on entire conversations with him. Still can. If you really hated someone, you wouldn't talk to them. You'd go out of your way to avoid them as much as possible."
