Nicely consistent style and presentation and a clean execution of simplified gameplay.
PROS:
- Colors worked really well together and the pixel size consistency really made everything mesh well visually.
- Clearly a lot of effort put into giving character to the hero and the context.
- Nice solution for "voice-over" to give the characters voices even though there's no actual speech.
- VERY nice tutorialization of the game concepts in the first few rooms forcing me to make mistakes and then instantly giving me health potions to negate built-in punishment for those mistakes. Well done.
CRITIQUE:
- Personal preference, but I always like a button push to confirm dialog prompts from characters because I'm a slow reader and I didn't manage to get to the end of some of the hero dialog lines before the textbox left the screen.
- I didn't see any real significance to collecting more money other than a score system and when the scoring system is some kind of currency my mind automatically thinks that I should be able to spend this somewhere.
- The UI was very good at showing things like attack power and health of characters for combat, but I still didn't have a good read at first glance how those would interact when attempting to attack.
