Adding onto to the simplified mode that you suggested, what if the other rows/columns would be faded out and just those particular cells would be highlighted. That way it would be easier to focus on just those active cells and reduce the chance that any user would start working in the wrong place.

Think that could be something to explore with version #4

Can't wait for version 3 this month, is it still on time for release (August)?
