Each marketplace has its own audience, with peculiar preferences. Any game will do better in some places and worse in others, it can't be helped. That said, have you promoted the itch.io edition as much? For instance, in this post you link to the competition. What are potential players supposed to do? They'll click the most convenient link that's right in front of them. ;)
