Thanks for your interest! It's a contest for independent developers and their games, with the intention of finding the best indie game of the year. There are two main categories (Pro and Hobby) and then there are some special categories too. A jury will pick the final winners in October, but there are also weekly polls where some games are picked to participate, to get people to know other games than just the final winners.
