I just wrote an entire review and I lost it goddammit. Oh well.
I honestly have no clue where to even start describing how I felt while playing this game, and I fancy myself a writer, so that's huge! It was such a surreal, heart-wrenching and somehow strangely fulfilling ordeal, and I have to say I enjoyed every second of it. I'm gonna start off with how gorgeous the music was. It set the mood right from the beginning, and I just knew that this wouldn't be just any old zombie apocalypse-themed game. It was thought-provoking, tragic, and even somewhat darkly comical at times, and I loved it! Kudos for bringing up a whole new side to the old zombie trope.
Anyways, I loved how we could name both the main characters --nice touch! I can honestly say that I've never enjoyed two characters so much. They were both unique, and their interaction was very surreal, and wonderful to watch. They were so different, but similar as well. Their dialogue complemented their personalities very well, and I felt like I was watching a short film. It was amazing how the game wasn't riddled with a lot of description, and how Shelby and Dustin were brought to life with just their interaction. I loved them!
Also, the art is just gorgeous! Their expressions were just great to watch, and I loved the time progression --very realistic. I have no clue how you managed to create something so magnificent in just four days! It's just astounding, to be honest. And the amount of thought and care gone into this game is very apparent. The writing was amazing as well, and none of the description or dialogue felt out of place.
I was enraptured by the mood of the game, and the self-deprecating nature of the characters just added to the overall.....deadened, sort of 'it's the end of the world so why bother' kinda atmosphere. I was caught up in the game from start to finish, and my jaw was on the floor with every unexpected turn, and every heart-wrenching moment (and boy, were there many). I just really love this game, and it's strangely serene for a story set in a zombie apocalypse. It makes you feel, and it makes you question a lot of things, and I don't think anyone will be able to finish the game and just sit there without thinking of some of the questions it posed. However, I kinda wish that there was a concrete ending, but then again, the open-ending contributed to the hopeless feeling that was laced throughout the story.I just really love this, okay?
And if "Shadows" was this good, I can't wait to see anything else you create! Honestly really want to write a fanfic based on this, and I'm Impatiently looking forward for more games from you! Now i'm gonna go bug everyone I know to play this!
