Pros:
  • Interesting idea for a game based on Zelda stuff
  • Progression system is decently balanced (though I don't know what point fish have)
  • Fun and funny ending, nice environment
Cons:
  • Unpolished controls and lack of music
  • Bugs
  • Lack of explanation for the player
Here & There:

I really like this idea but it gets bogged down by the lack of polish in terms of explanation for the player as well as controls and bugs. It took me a while to figure out that the dark spots were fish-centers and when I took on the Angler fish boss I died, it flew into the sky and never returned. Luckily I tried simply boating through the obvious end-game-wall after killing the other two and it turned out to be non-solid so I got to see the ending which was a fun little thing. I don't know what that weird big orb thing in the cave is though. I had tried bombing the cuccoos before the end but the lure just fell through the ground and I thought it wasn't supposed to happen but I was wrong. The boat controls are a bit frustrating because the turn causes a near complete loss of forward momentum, and the lack of reverse, while it makes sense for a boat I guess, also led to frustrating instances against the bosses. I ended up earning all the upgrades except the last fish one, which helped the game be a little more forgiving, but overall it could still have used some more polish to tighten up the experience. Some other things like the locking of the camera when aiming and the reel causing the lure to just fly across the boat and 20 ft away on the other side were a tad frustrating as well. This was a cool thing though, and I'd definitely be down to see what you come up with in a later jam.
