We started out with a Patreon but have pretty much abandoned this since it's just gathering dust. From my observations, there are two main ways you can succeed with Patreon:

1) Have a strong internet fanbase. People are more likely to donate money to people they know on some level and like. So this means regularly interacting with people on Twitter, putting up Youtube videos, streaming on Twitch etc. and make yourself a known personality.

2) Tap into an existing community and provide them with something they want.

Since your game is an RPG Maker tutorial, this is definitely possible for you but it depends on good you are at social media stuff and how much work you're willing to put into it. For a lot of devs (including us), too much can be a distraction from making games but there are some who do this really well.

Thanks for the good advice Krunchy Fried Games!

I agree with you about the social media issue. It also distracts me a lot and hinder my development progress as well.

I'll see what I can do regarding that.
