I get that I'm not allowed to sell the game I made using this asset, but can I still receive donations for the game?

No worries! The license does not specify about donations. Therefore I will make a decision as the creator of these assets. As long as the primary goal is NOT to sell the game (i.e. for commercial purposes), it's ok to receive donations from the game!
