Super cute and simple side-scroller with some interesting character designs.
PROS:
- A TON of custom art made for this game with each broken piece of the ship getting a custom little "repaired" sprite in addition to its broken state. Very nice touch.
- Consistent art style throughout making everything visually mesh together nicely.
CRITIQUE:
- Combat right now ended up boiling down to spamming lasers for me. I attempted to use the wrench and without hit feedback I didn't know if it was doing anything and I completely forgot that I had other weapons.
- The characters are extremely large on the screen. I think the purpose was to have more of a "surprise" feel when an enemy shows up, but it feels like you could accomplish this with more special moments like jump scares that have enemies spawning into the middle of the screen or out of things that you need to repair. That would let you back the camera up a bit and it wouldn't feel awkwardly close.
- The economy of repairing things right now feels odd. I just killed all the things and pressed repair when I walked past broken ship parts, but I ended up almost always needing blue gooey stuff and rarely ever needing fangs. I know where each piece comes from, but I don't really know why I would want to repair any given ship piece over any other.
