It's kinda both in some ways, there is taking the jock's girl, or at least really embarrassing him, and then there is another monster-infected person who sort of messes with your friends/slightly more than friends. Obviously, the latter isn't under the people's free will, whereas you causing the jock and his girl to break up is more orchestrated instead of purely forced.
