High quality aesthetics, and I like the concept. As it is, I'm not sure it's even finishable; I swear I've been everywhere on this map but no special key. I even defeated what could be considered a boss (two headed-ogre?) At this point, I'm calling that the victory.
I noticed several bugs:
- The sound of combat seems to be delayed by a very long time. I'll be walking around about a minute later and start hearing what I am assuming are the combat sounds from long ago.
- It seems the round system is a little broken or exploit-prone, or else I'm not sure I understand the combat system. Defending seems to do nothing, and I can attack much faster per "round" (or what I think is a round?) if I press the button quickly. The "Item" is evidently supposed to light up once every 3 "turns" but it seems that if I wait long periods of time between commands, it's once every 2 "turns", but I also can do upwards of 10 attacks before it cuts off my input, and then "Item" is ready again.
- Random encounters deplete? Unclear if this is a bug or feature, but the game became pretty empty after a few encounters and it seemed like the encounter rate fell the longer I stayed in an area. If intended, it's actually kind of cool.
- The battle status bar keeps interrupting itself. I eventually just ignored it.
- You can pick up silver equipment after gold equipment and downgrade yourself, requiring you to visit the gold equipment tiles again.
All told, this has all the ingredients to be a pretty fun game. I hope you flesh it out more!

You really played it! I did have to rush a few things towards the end, as I had to hit the road halfway through the Jam. If you beat the Ogre, then you won. He drops the Golden Key, but I didn't have time to reflect that on the status screen. There were other keys, spells, equipment, etc. but I didn't have time to implement them.
I'm not sure many who played it got that far, but a big portion of the final dungeon area was created diagonally. Hence the game name. It's hard to keep your bearings in there, and that was the point.
I did have issues with my battle state machine towards the end, but I had to make the submission deadline. Didn't have time to fix it.
Truly, thank you for putting so much effort into your review! I plan on polishing this one up and releasing a post Jam version. Thank you for the feedback!
