If someone is not listed in your mansion's list of residents (besides the player character), then they have usually been deleted. There are some quest characters that can disappear from the list and return later, but your children can never do that. If someone is released or runs away from your mansion then you can never get them back. You can buy back slaves sold to the guild, but many will disappear if you end the day.
