The atmosphere is amazing! I was generally impressed by the use of lighting for both atmosphere and level design, and didn’t have any trouble clearing through the game. I do wish the enemies responded to bullets with a pause or stutter as there were points where it felt like taking a hit was unavoidable.
I have one primary issue. There is a section towards the end of the game with dark hallways that spell out instant death. For enemy deaths, I can understand a restart… but this random instant death nearly kept me from finishing the game as I was very frustrated by having to start over from the beginning. A checkpoint system would have helped greatly with this.
I also think the player controller could use a little higher step height, but otherwise I had a great time going through this entry. The atmosphere was top notch, the story didn’t get overexplained, and the visuals were highly engaging while making use of its PSX limitations well. The audio design is the best I’ve seen this jam and the pacing (other than the restart I mentioned) feels reasonable.
Thanks for the submission!
