That's actually a pretty standard mechanic for these kind of games. At first you click manually and when you accumulated enough ressources you buy upgrades that might increase your clicks' power or are actively clicking, so at some point it becomes more of a managerial type of gameplay - which is where the "idle" aspect of an "Idle Game" sets in. Eventually it will run in the background and once in a while you check up on it and invest into further upgrades to speed up the scoring (which will get eaten up by higher health of higher level opponents and higher cost for higher level upgrades, but it's a balancing act after all...)
